We are located at 191 Hurontario Street beside the Motor Vehicle Branch.

Classes begin week of September 15 with registration continuing to available openings.

The 4 Streams of Training
A common question is about our four streams of classes, A, B,C,and D. Hopefully, this information may answer your questions, and give you an insight as to how your child can enjoy dance for many years to come at Fleet-Wood Dancentre.

The letters A, B, C,& D represent ability and years of training.

D: beginners

C: beginner or 1or 2 year of experience

B: three years minimum or by audition

A: Pre-Professional Program, by invitation or audition, prepares children for post graduate training at the college and university level. Training is enriched offering Cecchetti Ballet, Modern and Jazz.


The numbers that follow represent a group of dancers, reflecting:
~a grouping of ages
~a particular group of dancers that train well together.
Dancers generally stay with the same group during
their years at Fleet-Wood.

Our System of Codes
B5B = B Stream, Group 5, Ballet
A4J = A Stream, Group 4, Jazz
C3 = C Stream, Group 3
Actually a very straight forward code, and used for our computer system.

ADULT CLASSES

 

ON THE BAY magazine article featuring Fleet-Wood's Adult Disco Jazz..

"Hips are shaking and arms are spinning overhead as funky beats get a group of women gliding, juming and gyrating across the black rubber dance floor at the Fleet-Wood Dancentre in Collingwood. "Welcome to the Pleasure Dome" is pulsating from the overhead speakers and women in their forties and into their sixties make up tonight's adult disco jazz class. It is the perfect place to let go, get into your body and have some fun. This isn't your typical aerobic workout, but there are still running shoes and yoga pants and a whole lot of sweat!"

"Exercise usually seems like a chore," says Liz McMillan, 43. "Dancing doesn't seem like exercise; it's dancing. If you like the music you're going to move."

Instructor Sharron Fleet is a self-proclaimed disco queen and some of the moves she is teaching the women tonight are straight from the disco era dance floor. Fleet describes her classes as a stress-relieving good time. "It makes me feel free, just like when you'e a kid. You're soaring," enthuses McMillan. "It brings on self-confidence. You just want to have fun and you just laugh off the mistakes." After a slight cool down to "Good Morning Starshine", it's time to adjust your pony tail, if you hae one, to the top of your head and "get your hair bouncing" to "Superstitious" by Stevie Wonder. Glasses start to steam up and the sweat starts running. "I feel fabulous when I get home," says McMillan, "but the next day I'm totally pooped."

ADULT BALLET continues Tuesdays 7:00-8:00 pm. Nov. 11 to Dec. 9, 2008

Sharron Williams Fleet will guide you through the serenity of a "ballet barre warm-up" which will focus on correct posture and basic coordinations that will be then carried to the "centre floor" portion of the class. A low impact program designed to give beginning students a taste of ballet adage, and travelling allegro steps. Class will conclude with a simple dance.

ADULT DISCO JAZZMANIA Next course January 2009

If you like to dance dance dance then this is the class for you! 45 minutes of non-stop fun & sweat where Sharron pulls out her favourite disco moves from the 70's and joins them some sassy jazz moves! all to the driving beat of the best of the 70's. Guaranteed to get your heart rate up!. Class ends with a relaxing stretch.


ADULT HIP HOP! Next course January 2009

an hour of Hip Hop Fleet-Wood style! Also a very upbeat energetic class where moves are broken down into bite size portions guarenteed to serve up an hour of fun! Class will include a set dance routine.

 

Learn to Waltz for Christmas

with Jeff Trafford Wednesdays 8:00-9:00 Nov. 12 to Dec 10, 2008

Begin your evening with dinner out then bring your partner to Fleet-Wood for an hour of social dance. A variety of music will have you dancing with your partner in a basic rock'n roll jive to the waltz.

My name is Jeff Trafford and am in my second year of dance. Some of my favorite dances include the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Rumba, Swing, Cha-Cha, and Salsa. Dancing has changed my life and given my the confidence and the ability to hold my own on any dance floor. Stress relief, exercise, and having fun are other benifits that dance has brought me. I look forward to dancing with you all at Fleet-Wood Dancentre.

This is a program for beginners with no experience, just the urge to dance!

Each couple will receive a complimentary private class.

 

ADULT BELLY DANCING: continues Tuesdays 8:00-9:00 pm

Join Heather Robertshaw for your goddess workout while learning the ancient movements of Middle Eastern Belly Dance. Learn beautiful isolated movements of the body while you shake and shimmy your way through this fun filled class

Kirsten Potvin would like to invite you to join her on a journey towards learning a new language for your body….Pilates! Kirsten has been in the health and wellness field for over 20 years. She brings her years of study and passion into her career as a Pilates Coach and Personal Trainer. If you are a dancer , sports enthusiast or simply want to take care of your body you will be delighted to learn a new way of being.
Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. With systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates has proven itself invaluable not only as a fitness endeavor itself, but also as an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds. Widely embraced among dancers for years, the exercises--"elephant," "swan", the language--"pull navel to spine, and breeaaaathe," and the look--bright-eyed, refreshed, buoyant-without-necessarily-sweating, is popping up in fitness classes, physical therapy offices, corporate retreats, luxury spas and wellness centers across the country. Practiced faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits. Increased lung capacity and circulation through deep, healthy breathing is a primary focus. Strength and flexibility, particularly of the abdomen and back muscles, coordination-both muscular and mental, are key components in an effective Pilates program.
