Children love to move to music. They will move to music before they crawl or walk. It is a powerful motivator that can produce amazing results.
This is a true story,
There was a time when a young boy was born, a very “floppy” baby. Much concern was raised by the nurses and doctors at the hospital. He was referred to Sick Kids Hospital in Vancouver. After a lot of testing the diagnosis was “low muscle tone”. With a lot of intervention from physiotherapists and specialists he also lived at his mother’s dance studio, carried as a baby by dancers who would move him to the music.
Milestones of crawling, walking, running, jumping, riding a bike were delayed but he danced on, always lagging behind his peer group.
But as a teenager, he passed a difficult ballet exam in the Cecchetti Ballet Method. He went on to achieve a College Certificate in Dance, followed by a teaching career as an ECE in the School System and a Teacher of Dance in his mother’s School of Dance.
He was my son. Jonathan Fleet.
